Tips to Avoid Being a Halloween Treat Junkie

1. If you pass out candy, don't be all prepared and buy your candy super early.  You are way more likely to open up those bags to steal some pieces out. Last year I bought some candy from Costco for us to pass out way too early and Chad and I managed to eat every last piece before Halloween was here!  So I had to go out and buy another bag.  Not good my friends...that was a LOT of chocolate. Thankfully we moved out to the country and are not passing out candy this year - so no temptations are here.

2. Buy candy that you don't like.  For me, I love chocolate.  Peanut butter cups, snickers, twix and M&Ms.  And when there are bite size candies like that in the house, you think it's ok to just sneak one because they seem so small. Well they sure do add up (refer to #1 above)! So buy candy that you're not super interested in and you'll be less likely to cheat and steal some.

3. Let yourself have a treat!  Don't completely ban yourself from having a piece of chocolate.  You're much more likely to lose your ability to say no and binge eat the chocolate!

4. When going to Halloween parties - don't go hungry!  Eat a snack before-hand or even better, bring a healthy, clean option and eat that at the party.  Don't worry that other people might notice that you're not eating anything bad - you're focusing on your health and that is more important. :)

5. If you have small children like I do - and they get as much candy as mine do - try to find somewhere you can donate some of it.  My girls don't need that much sugar and so much always goes to waste.  And if you know there are loads of chocolate pieces sitting in a bucket or your pantry, you are so much more likely to give in.

6. Keep up with your exercise!!  When you're committed to working out, you're less likely to over-indulge in treats because you don't want all of your hard work to be for nothing.  Hold yourself accountable!  A great way to hold yourself accountable is to join one of my challenge groups.  It's such a fun way to be connected with other people working on their own journeys and your changes for success are increased when others know what you're doing!
