21 Day Fix

My new challenge group starts September 15th and I'm so excited to start my new program after finishing up PiYo.  The new program is called the 21 Day Fix and it's going to be amazing.  I plan to blog about my entire 21 Day Fix experience but wanted to offer some general info for any of you that are interested!  So what is the 21 Day Fix??  First of all - this is my super awesome Diamond Coach Shannon and these were her results with the program.  All I can say is WOW!

What if you could lose 10-15 pounds in just 21 days?  What if you were given 30 minute workouts that you could do at home, when it works with your schedule?  What if you were provided portion-controlled food containers, meal plans, support and the tools you need to be successful?  NO guess work....just 21 days - only 3 weeks of your life.  Interested?

The 21 Day Fix is one of the newest, hottest programs in the fitness world.  Trainer Autumn Calabrese has designed a 21-day fitness program that is simple to follow with rapid weight loss results.  The unique nutrition plan uses specifically portioned storage food containers that eliminate the guesswork from portion control.  No weighing, measuring, or counting calories, carbs or points. If it fits in the container, you can eat it.  And you'll lose weight.  When consumed in the correct quantities, there are no foods that are off limits.

The kit includes 7 color coded, portion controlled containers (dishwasher safe, microwave safe, BPA and DEHP free), a workout program including 7 different workouts, a Nutrition Plan (including a super helpful restaurant guide), a 25 oz Shakeology shaker cup, and a spot in my Challenge Group that comes with the support and accountability from me - your FREE coach.

During a closed interview, Autumn talked about the reasons why people are not seeing results with their clean eating and workout routine.  The #1 reason - PORTIONS.  Just because you are eating clean and working out does not mean that you will get the results you are looking for - typically because you really are OVER EATING.  This program was designed to help you to learn the correct amount of food you should be eating per meal.  Everyone can do 21 Day Fix and get awesome results.  Each workout has a modifier to show easier moves.  The test groups included fit people as well as people with 100+ pounds to lose - just to be sure that anyone can be successful with this program.

Other questions??

What does the nutrition plan look like? Super simple. No food is off limits because everything is in moderation. The food is easy to shop for, prep, and eat.  I also love the fact that there are so many fun ideas on Pinterest and You Tube!  You never eat anything that you don't like and you definitely are allowed Shakeology.

Can I modify meal plans for my needs (vegan, vegetarian, breast feeding, etc)? Absolutely!  The meal plan can be adapted to meet your needs and there are directions on how to do so included with the materials you'll receive when you order the 21 Day Fix.

Can I have a cheat meal?  You can have a treat a few times a week, and the directions are included on how to do so.

What results can I expect?  People generally lose 10-15 pounds.  It isn't a starvation or quick-fix type of program.  You can lose the weight AND keep it off because you'll be learning a new lifestyle when you practice the healthy habits in those 21 days.  Depending on what your goals are, if you don't want to lose weight, if you just want to maintain your current weight and tone up, you can make it happen. It is individualized for each person and YOUR goals.

What are the workouts like?  They are 30 minutes long and vary daily.  Autumn Calabrese is the trainer, and the set is very light and fun.  Each workout is intense and necessary to achieve your results.

What equipment is needed?  A resistance band or 5-10 pound dumbbells.

Can I do the 21 Day Fix for longer than 21 Days?  Definitely!  The behaviors learned in the 21 days should become habits so you can continue your healthy lifestyle.  It just takes 21 days to create a habit!

Who is the 21 Day Fix for?  Honestly - ANYONE.  The meal plan is flexible enough and there are enough modifications that if you are at an extremely beginner phase - you can do this workout. Someone at an intermediate level will love this program because it offers a challenge without wanting to quit, and even an advanced exerciser will benefit from the 21 Day Fix.  It is also great for men or women - it's not just a girl's program!

I Heart Costco

My little girls will tell you what our favorite store is without even having to think about it.  Costco, hello?? I never knew much about Costco before I met Chad but he was always pretty in love with the place.  They have everything and you save money on pretty much everything you buy - what's not to love?  It's definitely not worth it if you're going to waste anything that you get - but with the size of our family and the amount of food we eat - it always works out perfect and we are never wasting.

I wanted to share some of the normal stuff we get at Costco.  I have found that if I get some of these items at the regular store - I'm heading back there way too often and spending a lot more $$!

Since we normally eat most meals at home and don't really go out to eat much at all, and since me and the girls are home mostly every day - that adds up to a lot of meals (and dishwasher runs!)

Look at this heavenly load we just picked up.  I'll share what's in the pic and then add some other regular items that we get and love as well.

1. Fresh strawberries and raspberries. They are always great quality - you get a ton and the price is great!
2. Huge ginormous bag of red delicious apples (my fav!).  Do you know how expensive these things are at the grocery store?
3. Unsweetened Silk Almond Milk (only 35 cals in 1 cup - yes please). You get 3 in a pack.
4. Hummus - individually packed and 60 calories each.  I find if I buy the individually packed ones, it's so much easier to contain myself and my portions.  If we get the big tub, it's way too easy to just keep dipping. Next thing you know you have a stomach ache.
5. Big ole pile of Mushrooms.  These are the husbands of course - I don't touch fungus.
6. All Natural Peanut Butter.  Just peanuts and sea salt - I like that...nothing additional.  You get two in a pack.  After you open it you should stir and refrigerate - since it's only peanuts and salt - the oil can separate from the peanuts.  It's delicious!
7.  Egg whites - my go-to breakfast.  Sure, I could crack eggs and separate the whites out and waste the yolk - or find a better use for the yolk.  Or I could save myself some time and pour some out from one of these babies and call it good.
8. Fage fruyo greek yogurt.  We usually get vanilla.  Even though I know we should get plain - it's too hard to get my kids to like plain it so we stick with this one for now because they love it so much.
9. Kashi Cinnamon Harvest cereal.  There are so many bad cereals out there that I just can't buy anymore - but these ones are actually pretty good.  Cereal at Costco is SO MUCH cheaper than at the grocery store.  Check it out!

Some other items we get there pretty regularly....
* turkey burgers * bananas * kale salad mix * chicken breasts * veggie straws * whole wheat pasta * extra virgin olive oil * almonds * walnuts * pistachios * animal crackers (they are like crack though - don't even try to eat just one and just save them for the kids) * toilet paper * Kleenex * dishwasher cleaning tabs * baby wipes * pull-ups * laundry soap * ziplock bags * frozen fruit * blocks of cheese (that we grade when needed) * Go Go Squeeze Applesauce

If you're looking to do some good meal planning - I'd definitely recommend you to at least try Costco for some of the items you need.  It saves me so much time and money - who doesn't enjoy that? :)

Exciting News!

I was just selected to be an apprentice coach in the next Desire to Inspire Challenge Group!  Since I've started as a coach with Team Beachbody, I've only ever been a participant in one of our top coaches challenge groups.  Today I'm so excited because on September 1st, I'm going to be co-running the challenge group!

A Challenge is an online health and fitness group that has helped me completely transform not only my body, but my lifestyle.  I started in my first challenge group doing T25 and Shakeology.  I was so happy with my personal results and I was so inspired by my coaches, that I felt such a passion to be a coach myself.  The group provided so much support, motivation, and most importantly ACCOUNTABILITY for me.  I know that I just cannot do things on my own - I give up too easily.  I amazed myself at how hard I worked with the support of the challenge group and my coaches.

Then I saw my body start to change.  I became leaner and so much stronger.  I stopped looking at the scale and started looking in the mirror.  I could see definition and muscles.  Most importantly - I had SO much more energy than I had before.  With the combination of consistently working out, eating clean, and drinking Shakeology daily - I stopped getting headaches all of the time and I stopped getting sick.  It amazed me how much stronger my immune system got once I started making the right choices for my body.

Not only do I get to be in the group - but I get to bring 5 friends with me to join the exclusive group.  I have a week to decide who I will be bringing in the group, and I'm so looking forward to talking to people to make the selections.

It's amazing how excited you can be to work when you are doing what you really love.  I love that I can help others on their journeys just like my coaches helped me when I first started.

If you know of anyone looking to make a change in their lives - whether it be to lose some weight, to gain some strength, to be more active, to learn more about healthy nutrition - please let me know.  I would LOVE to help them take their first step!

My Favorite Things: Fitbit Flex

If you haven't heard of this before - this is the Fitbit Flex and let's just say I am a huge fan!  This will be a quick and to the point post just to let you know what it does and why I love it.

What is it? It is an activity monitor that tracks steps, distance, and calories burned (based on your personal info you put in).  At night, it tracks your sleep quality and wakes you up with silent vibrations in the morning. You set personal daily goals with one goal being the main one.  There are five lights that light up on the face of it.  When you double tab the band, you'll see where you are at in your progress for the day.  If 2 lights are showing, I'm 40% of the way to my goal.  I have it set up to my step goal - so I can kind of track how active I'm being for that day.  Since I use a heart rate monitor for my workouts, I don't usually pay a ton of attention to the calories burned info the flex gives me.

How much is it? On the company website it is $99.95 and I believe it's that same price in most stores too.  I know the Costco by us sells it for $94.95, so that is the cheapest I've seen it (unless it's on sale somewhere).

Why do I love it?  I love that I can easily change my goals to see how much harder I can push myself.  I really enjoy being able to do a simple tap to see how many steps I've taken.  While steps aren't the tell-all of activity, it certainly is a good indicator that you haven't been just sitting down all day.  I LOVE the silent alarm in the morning.  Something about being woken up with silent vibrations just feels so much less abrupt than a loud alarm in my ear.  It's also pretty cool to track your sleep quality.  Your information syncs right up to you computer and/or smart phone so you can easily just see all of your data whenever you want throughout the day.  What I love most about it is that it syncs up to my loseit app so I can have the two talk to eachother!

As you can see, I never take it off - not even for weddings :)
